Frost Percussion Group

Pillar I performed at the Frost School of Music by Nathaniel Holman, Robert Chapman, Nicholas Finley, and Graham Viegut.

Seeking percussionists to join me in commissioning Dewa Alit, leading Balinese composer of contemporary gamelan music, to write a duo for two vibraphones.

WPG toured the United Kingdom, Spain, and Portugal in October/November of 2023. The mission of the WPG is not just to inspire audiences and students but to give an international platform to the best percussionists of the next generation, providing an opportunity for cultural sharing and professional development. WPG members delivered their own presentations, clinics, lessons, performances, and masterclasses at 9 conservatories during the tour.

An indeterminate, participatory, intermedial work created by Colin Stokes, Allison Helt, and Graham Viegut that employs live percussion, 40-channel live-spatialized sound, interactive and fixed video and AI generated messaging. The work explores the creation and expansion of our universe and how it might end. Je suis là is run by a custom Python script that ‘chooses’ the ending of the work depending on certain conditions, specifically how the performers interact with the TouchMe MIDI interface, which controls the live-generated video on the central projector.

A collaborative recital of percussion music in which the majority of works and arrangements have never been heard in Texas before. The program includes contemporary percussion music, Gamelan, and brand-new arrangements of Christopher Deane and Emmanuel Séjourné.

Monkey Chant

and More - Balinese Music for Percussion

A setting of three Balinese musical forms for solo multi-percussion, additional percussionists surrounding the audience, and 8-channel fixed audio playback. Gesuri by I Wayan Brata (a Balinese Gong Kebyar piece), a traditional Balinese temple Baleganjur, and the Kecak (monkey chant) are all adapted to a modified drumset while a bath of live and recorded birdsong, gamelan, ambient noise, conversation, rainstorm, and crickets envelop the audience.
